X-axis controls **Pitch** | Y-axis controls **Volume**
The theremin is unique because you play it without touching it. It uses two radio antennas and a principle called **heterodyning** (mixing two radio frequencies).
Pitch Antenna (Vertical): When you move your right hand closer, your body slightly changes the electrical field (**capacitance**). This change is used to create a difference between two radio frequencies inside the instrument. This frequency difference is the audible note.
Closer Hand $\rightarrow$ **Higher Pitch**.
Volume Antenna (Loop): Moving your left hand near the loop controls the **amplitude (volume)** of the sound, using the same capacitance effect.
Closer Hand $\rightarrow$ **Quieter Volume**.
Note: This is a *digital* Theremin.
